Make the content handoff small enough to delegate

Make the content handoff small enough to delegate

A business owner can understand the value of content and still struggle to find time to make it. Recording with local businesses made that constraint clear for our team. The practical question is how to give someone else enough context to move the work forward.

Progress update from 25 October 2025. Done-for-you production was a proposed service idea, rather than an available offering.

TL;DR

Clipflow updates

  • Recordings with local businesses exposed how strongly available time shaped their content needs.
  • Customer needs were prompting us to reconsider the balance between supplying software and doing production work for them.
  • Customer learning shaped the work; no specific feature release was announced.

Putting it to work

  • Separate the business knowledge only you can supply from the production tasks someone else can own.
  • Delegate a defined next step with an example and an approval decision.

Keep the founder's contribution focused

The team had encountered owners who wanted the result but had little capacity for another ongoing job. That is a familiar constraint: the person with the best customer knowledge is often also running the business.

For a first video, ask that person for one customer question, the correct answer and a concrete example. Capture the facts that must stay accurate and the detail that would make the explanation misleading if removed.

An editor can then shape an opening or choose supporting footage without asking the owner to direct every cut. Put that context into a project page, where it stays connected to the production work.

The boundary matters. Handing over the editing does not hand over responsibility for promises about the service. Give the owner a factual review decision at the appropriate point, while letting the producer own the craft decisions within the brief.

Delegate a result someone can recognise

“Make some content from this” leaves too many decisions unresolved. “Prepare a short explanation of this customer question, using this recording and ending with the next step” gives the producer a useful target.

Provide a reference if tone or format matters. Agree on what the reviewer is checking before the work reaches them, using the current media review guide for the feedback workflow.

A smaller handoff will not remove every demand on the owner. It can make their contribution more predictable: supply the expertise, review the important claims and let the team carry the production between those decisions.
