Can you say it in one sentence?

I can walk you through projects, editing, publishing, repurposing and analytics. The technical explanation makes sense to me because I know how all the parts fit together. Someone hearing about the business for the first time doesn't have that context.

Our previous business was easier to explain in the language of its industry. We did real estate marketing. People could place that fairly quickly, even though there was plenty of software and operational complexity behind it.

With Clipflow, we kept trying to explain the whole workflow. By August, we were getting closer to something simpler: helping businesses create content at scale, with as small a team as possible. That wording was still being worked through, but it gave people a reason to care before we described the machinery.

I think this is a trap for technical founders. We understand the implementation so well that we start the conversation there. We explain what we've built and expect the other person to work out what it does for them.

You can use content to show the fuller picture over time. Demonstrate the work, show the problem and let people see how the pieces connect. Your first sentence still needs to stand on its own.

Try answering the question a family member would ask: what does your business actually do? If your answer needs a tour of the interface, you probably have more work to do on the explanation. We certainly did.
