Lead with the result

If your business makes something, show me the finished result near the start of the video. Then take me through how you made it.

I watch a lot of food videos, and that's a format I like. You see the thing you're about to learn to make. It gives you a reason to watch the preparation because you know where the work is heading.

The same idea can work for a trade, a product or another business with a visible result. Give the viewer a quick look at what was achieved, then show the process that got you there.

I see people put all the making footage first and leave the result until the very end. Sometimes they don't show the finished thing at all. You're asking the viewer to stay with the process before they've had much reason to care about its outcome.

A short glimpse can set that expectation. It tells someone what they'll get to understand if they keep watching.

That doesn't mean the whole video needs to be a polished reveal. You can show the work, the decisions and the difficult parts. The result simply gives those pieces a destination.

I think it gives the story a useful starting point. It's part of what makes me want to watch.

Next time you record a job, remember to capture the finished work as well as the steps. Your opening may already be sitting in that final shot.
