Test the explanation before investing in a more polished ad

A polished video can still leave people unsure what your business helps them do. In our advertising tests, a visually simple execution was working well. The useful lesson is to test the explanation before adding production effort.

A polished video can still leave people unsure what your business helps them do. In our advertising tests, a visually simple execution was working well. The useful lesson is to test the explanation before adding production effort.

Progress update from 2 March 2026. Advertising results were specific to our own tests.

TL;DR

Clipflow updates

  • Analytics integration work continued while platform data populated.
  • The content team was reviewing what made individual ads work.
  • A simple execution was driving useful results in the team's current campaign.

Putting it to work

  • Show a customer problem clearly before adding elaborate production.
  • Keep a record of the message each version is testing.

Make the problem easy to recognize

For a service business, an ad might show the confusion of comparing quotes and explain one way to make the decision easier. You can test whether that idea connects without beginning with a long cinematic introduction.

Put the exact message and intended audience in the brief. The Project Pages guide explains keeping the script and reference with the assignment. That makes it easier to distinguish a new message from a new visual treatment.

One rough-looking ad was performing well in our campaign. That result supported further testing of its explanation. It did not establish that polish is harmful or that a similar ad would work for another business.

Change one useful part

Make a second version with a different opening or clearer demonstration, while keeping the offer comparable. Review the relevant outcomes over the same period rather than selecting a winner from whichever version has the biggest early number.

Use the current analytics guide for organic platform results, and your advertising platform's reporting for the paid campaign. Keep those contexts distinct when deciding what to record next.
